Winter’s back in our region full of snow and cold days and we decided to talk about this kind of weather and learn some phrases during the English Speaking Practice. Of course some of vocabulary was very familiar and our participants could speak easily on this topic. But there were few phrases which our club’s members heard for the first time. It’s a big pleasure for us when after the class people learn something new and are always thankful.
Martin Luther King Jr. was an American activist who became the visible spokesman and leader in the civil rights movement and becauseof him there is a federal holiday in the USA, which is observed on the third Monday of January each year.
Thus, January 18 Window on America Center for Future Leaders held a meeting of English Speaking Practice which we dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We looked through the history of this holiday in the USA and discussed questions like “How can we fight against unfair treatment today?” and “What is freedom for you” which are still very important to think a out. We also watched a short video clip of Martin’s famous speech “I have a dream” and shared our own ideas to this topic. Most of people said that their dream was to have peace in the world and find some cancer and COVID 19 treatments.
What is success? Is it wealth? Is it happiness or fame? Most people agree that it cannot be defined in one sentence, but instead it contains many things. Yesterday members of English Speaking Club joined Window on America Center for Future Leaders meeting from different places (the USA, Great Britain, Canada, Cambodia and Ukraine) to improve their English. The topic we discussed was about “Success and how to achieve goals”. Thus we answered the questions, read some quotes and explained their meaning. After that we looked through some success habits such as organization, relaxation, positive attitude, personal care, taking action, sharing to think over our lives. It was a nice meeting because people talked a lot and that was amazing 🤩.
Summer is in full swing and lots of people are still enjoying their holidays so Window on America Center for future Leaders dedicated its meeting to "Beach Holidays". We were happy to meet people from different areas (Ukraine, Romania, Cambodia) who joined online and shared their thoughts about summer and discussed some questions. As usual we learned some beach vocabulary namely: coast, seashore, riverbank, harbour, tide, current, jetski etc. We also looked through some great idioms such as “to bring sand to the beach”, “to bury your head in the sand”, “to make waves“, “to swim with sharks“ and then participants tried to come up with different situations where they could use these phrases. Also we are really thankful to our native speakers from the USA, Great Britain and Canada for helping us improve our speaking skills. See y’all on Monday.
On Thursday, May 20, Window on America Center for Future Leaders was happy to meet its active members of English Speaking Club. And we continued to talk about Road Trips and Vehicles. At the beginning of our online meeting we did an activity “Road Trip Planning” where participants told about their perfect road trip using the following information such as kind of vehicle they would drive 🚗, people they would invite 👨👩👧👦, things they would pack 🔦🧳 and places they would see 🏝🗽. Then we looked through some useful transport idioms and learned some essential vocabulary to use when you’re traveling. Volunteers from Great Britain, the USA and Canada helped us improve our speaking which was great 😊. We’re looking forward to the next English Practice on Monday. Yesterday’s meeting which Window on America Center for Future Leaders had online was dedicated to traveling 🧳🚘✈️🗺. Active members discussed some questions and learned some useful phrasal verbs.
Here are some of them 👇
- set off / hit the road;
- get around;
- deal with something;
- put up with something;
- see somebody off etc.
To practice these phrases visitors were asked some questions and told about their last holidays. Also we played a game called "Name5" which was great because we all had to think about 5 different things (related to the topic) in a really short period of time. Our friends, volunteers from the USA, Great Britain and Canada helped us improve our English. Thus practice makes perfect every time 😉. Remember that and keep up learning.
Nowadays learning languages is an essential part in our life. Lots of people are learning at least one foreign language. Window on America Center for future Leaders decided to dedicate the last meeting of English Speaking Club to studying them. As usual we started with warning up questions and then we looked through some practical tips and discussed if they were really helpful. Among them are:
* Have a reason that motivates you;
* Have a partner;
* Talk to yourself;
* Keep it relevant;
* Have fun with it;
* Listen to people and watch them speaking;
* Immerse yourself etc.
Thanks our native speakers we can improve our English and have fun with it.
Last Monday and Thursday Window on America Center for Future Leaders gathered its members online from different countries to speak English and have fun 🤩. We were glad to meet people from Kazakhstan, Canada, Cambodia, The USA, Great Britain, Thailand and Ukraine. It was a memorable experience to get to know so many interesting people and improve our English! The game “5 words” helped us to speak a lot and ask each other different questions. In this game, our visitors had to describe their perfect day using only 5 words and after that the rest group had to ask questions regarding each word. It was a great way to get to know each other better. If you would like to improve your English and hear different accents join our online meetings every Monday and Thursday!
We are always happy to see visitors at the Kherson oblast Library for Children named after Dniprova Chayka and last sunday Window on America Center for Future Leaders had 3 meetings of English Club for kids, teens and adults. Anna Reznik chose the spring topic for each group. Thus we all revised the spring vocabulary playing the game called assosiation and watching a video “What happens in spring?”. Then the little visitors did another activity called “Iceberg” where they jumped from “iceberg” to “iceberg” and called the words and phrases.
Teens were working in groups and made up some short spring stories.
And there was a boardgame “Name 3” which we played with adults and improved our speaking.
Photography has become really popular in the art world so Window on America Center for Future Leaders Kherson decided to discuss this topic yesterday during the English Speaking Club's meeting. We looked through some types of photography and discussed our favorite ones.
We are really thankful to Connelly Molnar, our American friend for sharing his amazing pictures (he is very good at it 👌) and the opportunity to see beautiful places across the United States.

Yesterday there was an online meeting of English Speaking club which was dedicated to our childhood memories. We answered some questions in order to find out more about each other and shared the most vivid moments of that time. We also looked at some "Time expressions" such as “Time’s up”, “Time after time”, “Take your time”, “At one time”, “At the best of times”, “In no time”. The most confusing for them were “In time” and “On time” #expressions . But after practicing and using them in different sentences it all went perfect 🤗
How wonderful life can be with art you just need to notice it everywhere. Yesterday Window on America for Future Leaders Kherson led the meeting of English Speaking Club via Zoom where we talked about “The Beauty of Art”. We learned some art idioms and art vocabulary and found out the difference between fine art , arts and crafts, visual art and performance art. We looked at some famous pictures of Da Vinci , Van Gogh , Salvador Dali etc. Of course we discussed questions related to the topic and did fun activities such as “Drawing dictation“ and “At talking activity”. During the first one, one of the participants should have described every detail in the piece of art work which he liked and the others should have drawn it. It was fun 🤩 especially when we compared the pictures then.
"We are what we do" - that was the topic we discussed yesterday during the English Speaking Club. Window on America for Future Leaders Kherson gathered its visitors via Zoom and we all practiced our English with native speaker, our American friend. We talked a lot about habits and shared some good and bad habits, eating habits, exercise habits and sleeping habits etc. Then we looked through some habit quotes and explained their meanings. At the end we played a game called "20 Questions" which was great because we all tried to #guess someone’s habit. Thank you dear friends for joining us and practicing English. On Monday, December 28th Window on America for Future Leaders Kherson had an English Speaking Practice where we gathered for the last time in 2020. We all reflected on year that passes and shared the most memorable moments of it with each other. But of course there was something that we all regretted in some way so we learned how to use "Wish: expressing regret". Firstly we looked at the grammar rules and then practiced them doing a "Photocaption activity". We also made up a story which is one of our favorites. It is a great way to improve our speaking. Thank all our friends from the United States, Kazakhstan and different Ukrainian cities (Lviv, Kharkiv, Kherson) for participating. See you all next year 😊.
There’s one good thing about online English practices and that is meeting people from different cities and even countries. Yesterday, Window on America for Future Leaders Kherson met visitors from Kharkiv, Dnipro, Kazakhstan and the Netherlands. We all gathered via Zoom and had a great opportunity to practice our English with native speakers, our friends from America. We did the activity called "Christmas brainstorming" where we went through some categories such as Food, Decorations, Traditions and Christmas problems that can appear during the holiday season. It was also exciting to compare the celebrations of Christmas around the world and share some our vivid memories with each other. Thank you all for participating and having a great time together. Thanksgiving Day is only in a week but active members of English Speaking Club started to talk about this holiday today. Window on America Center for Future Leaders invited American volunteers to join the English practice in order to know more about the most popular holidays of America and their traditions and about the United States in general. We discussed and compared our favorite feast meals, holiday activities and family challengies that sometimes occur during holidays. We also had time to ask and answer questions just to get to know each other better.
Last meeting (September, 24th) of English Speaking Club that is at Window on America Center for Future Leaders was dedicated to Friends and Friendship 👭👬. There is no person in the world 🌍 who has no friends at all so the club’s members talked a lot about their friends and qualities they have. We also were able to remember some idioms and practice using them in sentences. During the whole English practice we discussed some questions and improved our English with native speakers. Thanks to the American friends for joining us through the skype.
