What animal are you?

Last Monday, January 31, Window on America Center for Future Leaders held a speaking practice with active members of English Club for adults. Also this day is known for International Zebra’s 🦓 Day so our meeting we dedicated to animals. We discussed some questions and then learned some useful idioms such as 'dog days", "have a cow", "kitty corner", "make a beeline for", "wild goose chase", "one-trick pony", "cold turkey" etc. And of course to practice them we make up our own examples. Another great activity we did was comparing ourselves with different things and the song “Everything at once” by Lenka helped us a lot.

Amazing Places

Our world is full of amazing places and it’s important to notice them! Yesterday, members of our English Speaking Club gathered online to talk about some of those places! The topic was sightseeing holidays and to start off, we learned some vocabulary such as famous places to visit; sightseeing activities and idioms. Then we practiced using them by doing a picture description activity. After that we all had a great opportunity to improve our speaking with a game called small talks, in which our visitors were given only 2 minutes to keep a conversation going. The participants from different cities in Ukraine and countries made this meeting fun and a blast! See you next time!

Social Media in our Life

On June, 23 Window on America Center for Future Leaders held an online meeting of English Speaking Club dedicated to "Social Media". Anna Reznik, the facilitator of this club's session prepared Conversation Cards where participants discussed different questions such as "What's your favorite thing about social media?", "What kind of information is in your profile?", "Do you think that what you see on social media is real or fake?" etc. We all agreed that people are addicted to different social media so we tried to find some good things about using them.

We also learned some of the most popular acronyms and slang words that are used in text messages.

One of the fun activities we did was "Photo Captions" where our participants should have written the description to them. Thanks to American volunteers we could improve our English Speaking skills.

Be Style - Be Cool

What style is yours? This and other questions we discussed today with our American friends and active members of online speaking club. We all tried to find out with our own style and described it with 3 adjectives. Then we could compare specific names of some clothes that are popular in the USA and Ukraine. At the end we played a funny game categories and revised our English vocabulary.
