What's next?

This English Speaking Practice for Kherson and Mariupol Youth was full of laughter, creativity and learning! We started off by revisiting the pet idioms we explored last week in our Telegram Chat. From “raining cats and dogs” to “pet peeves”, participants had the chance to review, explain and use these expressions in fun mini-dialogues on given situations. It was amazing to see how quickly everyone confidently used the idioms in everyday situations.

After that, we shifted into summer mode with a lively “Would you rather” (summer edition) activity. This part of the session sparked lots of interesting conversations, opinions and a great opportunity for spontaneous speaking (some of the topics we discussed: summer camps; jellyfish; homemade ice cream; amusement parks; sunbathing etc.

The atmosphere was relaxed and engaging - just what we need to keep speaking English fun and stress-free!

Why "Clue" is more than just a game in our English Speaking Meetings?

In our English Speaking Practices for youth from Kherson and Mariupol, the board game “Clue” has become a surprise favorite. We’ve played it more than three times now with our friend, a VSPP, Alana Underwood, and each session is more than just a game - it’s a powerful way to practice English. While trying to figure out who committed the crime, students naturally practice key language skills: asking questions, boosting and improving vocabulary, understanding grammar and listening and of course, speaking.

Why students love it so much and what makes Clue special is the atmosphere it creates - laughter, teamwork, and real conversation. It brings students together, even online and helps them learn in a relaxed, creative way.

Scrapbooking - a new way of Art!

On our last English Speaking Practice for Kherson and Mariupol Youth we explored an exciting and popular topic “Scrapbooking” and looked at it as the new way of art. Participants learned that scrapbooking is more than a hobby; it’s powerful form of storytelling using photos, cutouts and decorations. We discussed how this hands-on activity helps people reflect, heal and connect with their identity. We also explored new vocabulary, such as: keepsake, cutouts, layout, embellishments, journaling etc. After that, we had some practice and discussion to revise it. To end the session, each participant shared ideas for their own scrapbook page - ranging from family memories to favorite hobbies and pets.
